Delightful Christmas Ornaments: Traditions Revisited

When Christmas is just around the corner, the tradition of my life begins once again -- the tradition of dressing up my space to warmly welcome all dear guests for Christmas celebration. The best way to bring a merry, festive atmosphere into one's home is to purchase a Christmas tree and adorn it with heaps of ornaments.

Generally, Christmas ornaments refer to decorations used to adorn the Christmas tree and honor the age old traditions associated with the joyous festive season. An 'Angel' hung for God's protection, an 'Apple' representing health, a 'Candle' suggesting unselfishness or a 'Heart' meaning true love, all the ornaments celebrate the omnipresent spirit of Christmas.

True Meaning of Christmas Ornaments

Ornaments are considered to be heirlooms of sorts and used with dedication year after year; they signify eternal and sacred bonds of the heart and soul with loved ones and God himself. The ever changing times and trends have produced a number of innovative and unique decorative ornaments; however, their meaning remains the same.

From the age-old spherical blown glass 'bauble' to the contemporary handpainted designer ornaments, decorations for the Christmas tree have truly evolved. Stars, fir trees, bells, gift bows, candy canes, wreaths and many others are ornaments that have been used conventionally since times immemorial to give a message to mankind and unite them in celebration.

Looking at a star hung high on the tree; one is reminded of hope and prophecies fulfilled. The color red is often used and signifies sacrifice. The evergreen fir tree holds the promise for an everlasting light and life with needles signaling towards heaven. The bells are guiding sounds for lost sheep and suggest that for Christ, all His people are special and He will look after them. The gift bow ties everyone together in the beautiful bond of love and brotherhood. Santa brings goodwill and a pine cone represents motherhood.

The magic of Christmas ornaments can be felt and experienced in daily lives. Their meaning only adds to the wonder that the world is and how we can all be instrumental in making it a better place always and every time. Every year as we bring out the decorations, we reinstate their meaning and discover life, yet again.
